The Zulu name “incwadi” means “a book”.
The plant gets the name incwadi because the leaves are arrangement like a book as they come out of the bulb.
General use: In small doses the bulb is used to make an infusion that is taken as a hallucinogen. The bulb is also used to make a decoction that is taken as a sedative.
