The term dermatitis is a portmanteau of the words “derm”, which means skin, and “itis”, which means inflammation. Hence, dermatitis is a general term for inflammation-based skin diseases. There are different types of dermatitis, the most common being atopical dermatitis, which is commonly known as eczema.
