Ukugcaba, also known as ukuchaza or ukusika or ukulokotha. is defined as a method of administering or introducing traditional medicine into the body as a form of treatment for an ailment or condition. Ukugcaba is often likened to scarification. However, ukugcaba is an African practice, its roots are deeply entrenched in African traditional medicine and history where scars were created to administer medicine and as a form of cultural expression.
