What is it?

Madubula (shibhoshi) is a brand of household disinfectant that is similar to Jeyes Fluid. It is a black liquid chemical with a pH that is moderately alkaline (between 8.0 and 10.0) and a pungent odour. The shibhoshi odour is strong because it was originally intended for outdoor and external use only.

Brief history

Historically, shibhoshi was used for medical treatment. It is most famous for its contribution to the treatment of scarlet fever in 1877. According to Dr. William Robert Woodman, the low death rate among scarlet fever patients was due to the fact that patients were given frequent warm baths with shibhoshi.

Shibhoshi uses

Over the years shibhoshi uses have evolved to include the following:

  • Outdoor cleaning. For example, disinfecting patios, greenhouses, animal houses, bins, etc.
  • Unblocking or deodorizing drains.
  • Indoor cleaning. For example, disinfecting floors, tables, chairs, etc.
  • Neutralizing malodorous. For example, masking the smell of portable toilets.
  • Preventing the spread of infectious diseases.

Add a teaspoon of madubula, a teaspoon of methylated spirit, a spoon of course salt, and a teaspoon of holy ash to your bath water.

Precaution

Shibhoshi can be toxic when inhaled, ingested, or absorbed through the skin.
